Current News
While we update subscribers about news on a monthly basis through our free e-newsletter, The Buzz, this is where you can find informal updates about Children’s Science Center. At the moment, one of our most pressing concerns is finding a home for our museum. We are looking along the Dulles Toll Road corridor to find the ideal site for our interactive math and science museum. We’re talking to landlords right now about spaces of 20,000 to 40,000 square feet, and we’re hoping to greet our first visitors next fall!
Even before our doors have opened, though, we’ve been having fun meeting families at different community events throughout Northern Virginia. We recently participated in the Enchanted Forest, sponsored by the Junior League of Northern Virginia, where we provided hundreds of families with hands-on science activities (to view some pictures, visit our Flickr site). You may have seen our hands-on exhibits at Viva Vienna, Celebrate Fairfax, Reston Festival or elsewhere this summer. We hope to continue spreading the word about Children’s Science Center this fall by having volunteers organize information sessions in their homes and for their school groups and community and religious organizations. If you’d like to help make this happen, please visit our How to Volunteer page.
If you are reading this news update, you have already seen our new Web site. We have completely overhauled our old Web site and logo to better fit our new name and mission as the Children’s Science Center. We welcome your feedback on any of our rebranding efforts! We would like to thank the great staff at Hinge, a brand marketing firm headquartered in Reston. We love the way our new logo and Web site reflect our goal to make math and science cool for kids!
